Joyful Day!
But
how about those summer nights! Did you
catch the Summer Solstice Mega Moonrise last week? As I sat outside watching the moon with its
hazy golden veil rise above the cottonwoods, dozens and dozens of fireflies
entertained me with their lightning dance, rivaling any laser show I have
seen. The soothing vibes of the tree
frogs, crickets and other nighttime critters were a mellow backdrop to the
Artist’s masterpiece that was being created right in front of my eyes! The viewing was also enhanced by a gentle
cooling breeze – a balm to this piece of earth that had endured a three-digit
degree day. I noticed that it even
smells differently at night! I
so enjoyed this moment with all its intense beauty, and I later wondered what
it might be like to practice a little asana under a moonlit sky. Care to try it? I guess the current night’s sky would be
moonless, but starlit is nice too – a new opportunity, “Yoga Under the
Stars”. Yes, let’s step outside of our
refrigerated homes into the balmy evening breeze of summer, strike a
mysterious pose under a magical moon and see what the Artist paints for us. May
Your Spirit Soar, Margie Studio Closed June 30 – July 5We
will be closed next week: Monday, Jun
30 through Saturday, July 5 for teachers’ recoveries/vacations/holiday
celebrations. Thank you so much for
your patience and understanding, and remember that everything is an
opportunity. Whether we perceive it as
good, bad or indifferent, each aspect and event in our life presents
opportunities. This week is a
wonderful opportunity for each of us to work on our own home practice. I’ll meet you under the stars! Good to KnowI am not sure if this qualifies as good to know or is just
downright interesting (and humbling), but all that time spent out under the
stars has me thinking about just how many stars there are out there – in our
own galaxy as well as in all the other galaxies. It is simply out of my scope of
imagination, and to make it even more mind boggling, the Hubble Space
Telescope has captured amazing pictures that attempt to show us just how vast our universe truly is –

the August edition of Yoga Journal, Kelly McGonigal describes Uttarabodhi mudra as one that “symbolizes
the experience of nonseparateness. Uttara
means realization, and bodhi means enlightenment.” The mudra is formed by interlacing the
middle through pinky fingers, pressing the pointer fingers together, and
pulling the thumbs away from the pointer fingers, with the thumb tips touching
and palms slightly separated. We
can use this mudra to “remind ourselves that strength comes from interdependence,
not independence. Practice in poses
like Virabhadrasana I and III (Warrior
I and III). In a seated meditation, we
can hold this mudra at heart level and bring to mind how connected we are to
others.” |
