Joyful Day!
It is the
time of year when our weather changes abruptly -- and we have not been
disappointed. In the past week we have
experienced thunderstorms, hail, high winds, bright and glorious sunshine,
the warmth of an 80 degree day and, as I begin writing this newsletter, sleet
and snow! The change in our weather is
constant – so too is the change in our lives. In a recent
Yoga Journal article, Dayna Macy writes, "The ferocity and destructive
nature of the storm hides its gift – renewal of nature." Her words
remind us that in nature renewal follows destruction; change is
constant. In the wake of each and every storm, the renewal process
begins. Maybe the storm in our life is
an internal storm, maybe it is a life changing storm, or maybe it is a stormy
relationship. The encouraging reminder from nature is that once we come
out of the storm, we can open up to the renewal process and find healing and
freedom in accepting all of the gains and losses that make up the balance in
our lives. In
accepting that we thrive in this balance, we are able to embrace a life that is
full – full of highs and lows, times of illness and times of wellness, we
rise and we fall, people lift us up and people let us down, there are storms
and there is renewal – ALL of it together makes up the meaningfulness of life. And
by fully living each and every moment as it is, from the ordinary to the
extraordinary, we will enjoy a more balanced state of being and live a more
joyful existence. Life IS
change. I woke up this morning to a
bright, white, snow-covered landscape with trees happily bearing the weight
of their cold, sparkling crystal finery – an extraordinary moment in my
perception. As I look out my window just hours later,
that same white landscape has changed to one of understated brown with
patches of green, and the sparkly luster of the trees has faded to a matte
gray – an ordinary moment in time in my perception. Both moments, as all moments, are to be
embraced, celebrated and fully lived! May

to Jeanne McLaughlin of the International Institute for Bau-Bilogie and
Ecology, baking soda mixed with apple cider
vinegar is a bubbly combination that makes a great drain cleaner. Sprinkle baking soda down the drain then add
apple cider vinegar and let it bubble for 15 minutes, then rinse with
hot water. This is a safer alternative to dangerous drain cleaners. (I have also read that one can pour a can of
soda down the drain to unclog it - yet another reason to consider avoiding
pouring that stuff down our throats.) Jeanne McLaughlin says that baking soda and apple
cider also make a wonderful spa-like bath for soaking away aches and pains
and detoxing. It also cleans the tub and the drain. I am all over this multi-tasking: take a bath, detox, clean the tub and the
drain - all at the same time! Let’s
take a look at Pran Mudra this month.
Pran Mudra is formed by joining the tips of the little finger and the
thumb and placing the tip of the ring finger on the nail of the little
finger. Keep the index and middle
fingers straight. This
mudra helps in the progress of vital energy – moving the energy up the spine
and bringing about deep changes in the senses and making one alert. Vibrations
can sometimes be felt in every part of the body. This mudra stimulates joy, energy, delight,
zeal, hope and perseverance. If
practiced when one is fatigued, a feeling of energy can be restored in a very
short time. This mudra also increases
our concentration. |
