Joyful Day!

And happy Labor Day!  Isn’t it great to have a day designated to taking time off from our busy lives and to simply “do nothing”?  It is so easy to over-schedule ourselves, running from one meeting to another, one activity to another, one errand to another - all the while staying attached to our technological devices.   Even when our over-scheduling consists mostly of fun activities, it can still take its toll on our bodies, minds and souls.  We may begin to lose sight of the delicate balance between doing and being.

Our yoga practice helps us to restore this balance.  We learn to “be” in the midst of doing.  We are reminded to listen to our bodies and to make time to nourish ourselves in order to create more energy.  Labor Day is a great reminder to STOP… and be mindful of the energy that we use each day – the energy to run our homes, our offices, our bodies, our lives.  Perhaps we can use the day to practice conserving energy – in as many ways as possible.  Be creative, be original, get the kids involved, and let me know what you come up with.  I’m always trying to find new ways to “do” less and “be” more!

May Your Spirit Soar,

Margie

New Evening Classes

Our evening classes are underway, meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:45.  Come join us!!

Restorative Class Moves to Thursdays

Our Restorative Yoga class is now meeting on Thursdays at 11:15 rather than on Wednesdays.  This class focuses on opening the body passively, increasing one’s energy level and supporting the body’s own healing processes.  It is ahhhhhhhh, so nice.

No Class Saturday, Sep 1

Please be aware that there will be no yoga class on Saturday, September 1 due to the Labor Day Holiday.

Mudra of the Month (a mudra is a hand posture)

This month, we will be working with Pran Mudra – formed by placing the tip of the little finger to the tip of the thumb, and placing the tip of the ring finger on the nail of the little finger. The index and middle fingers are kept straight together.

This mudra helps in the progress of vital energy.  It can improve one’s stamina and helps make the muscular system stronger.  It helps in removing impurities in the blood during circulation.  Pran mudra stimulates joy, energy, delight, zeal, hope and perseverance.

Revisions

In our August newsletter, it was mistakenly stated that one of our new teachers, Tom Ferree, trained under Richard Freeman.  Tom did practice with Richard Freeman in Colorado; however, he actually did his training with Larry Schultz in San Francisco, CA.
